Securing connections to XTM Connect – HubSpot (Locale)

This topic contains background information about the connection types that can be defined in XTM Connect – HubSpot (Locale). The connections involved are used to access HubSpot. For details of how to create these connections, see Creating a new connection to an XTM Cloud instance, from XTM Connect – HubSpot (Locale).

XTM Connect – HubSpot (Locale) uses authentication levels to control the connections to HubSpot and ensure that access to HubSpot is secure.

The Authentications screen contains a list of the content types that have been configured in your XTM Connect (Locale) instance:

  • A content type is a specified part of a source system (data source) such as HubSpot, in which content is created.

  • An XTM Connect (Locale) authentication can be seen as a connection configuration. It is used to enable XTM Connect (Locale) to connect to a particular content type, in HubSpot.

  • There are two types of connection, with different authentication levels, for accessing a source system such as XTM Connect (Locale). These authentication levels, Private and Shared, are described in the table below. This is necessary to prevent security issues when different organizations access the connector: the connector owner (client) needs to have proper control over access:

    • A client does not usually want to give one of its LSPs Adminstrator access to one of the client's data sources (such as HubSpot), via a connector, just so that the LSP can complete a workflow for the client.

    • On the XTM Cloud side, when one of the client's LSPs creates a project, the client does not want to tell its LSP the client's Company name, Username and Password, which are used to authenticate a connection to XTM Cloud. If the client did so, the LSP would be able to see every single customer and project template in the client's XTM Cloud system. That would be a huge breach of security.

  • A client's Administrators can create authentications. Other users such as the client's LSPs are not normally permitted to create authentications.

  • Many authentications can be created for a particular data source and the relevant connector (XTM Connect (Locale)), if required.

  • When an authentication has been created for a data source, a Project Manager can select it during project creation and use it to send content from the data source for translation in XTM Cloud, via XTM Connect (Locale).

Authentication types

These authentication types, listed in the Types column in the Authentications screen, are available:

Authentication type

Description

Private

These authentications are private and cannot be used except in the account of the owner (person who creates them). That is usually an Administrator in the connector owner organization (the client).

Shared

Can be created by the connector owner (the client) or another organization that uses it (such as a client's LSP).

Delegated

The connector owner (the client) assigns permission for a specific organization (such as an LSP) to use a shared connection by "delegating" the connection to that organization. The connection is not activated until it is delegated and used to connect to a data source.
